New York's songs - New York - Post 14th November

New York is undoubtedly a city loved by some and hated by others. And if you're a musician and to go living in NY, sooner or later you will make a song about the Big Apple. So it was with the great masters of music that eternalized its work with the city as a backdrop.
The magazine Time Out New York in March this year had a cover story in the selection of the 100 best songs about the city that never sleeps. I don't know many of the songs listed, so I decided to create my top 5 of songs about New York.

Fifthly, Sting - Englishman in New York. The lyrics of the song speaks of an Englishman impressions about New York City. The "English" in question is the famous eccentric and gay icon Quentin Crisp. Sting wrote the song not long after Crisp moved from London to an apartment in New York's Bowery. It's a beautiful song!

Fourthly, U2 - Angel of Harlem. Harlem is a neighborhood in Manhattan. I found the information in a blog that this song is a tribute to the black singer born  in America, Billie Holyday. I don't know if it's true, but I love U2 and I like this song too.

Thirdly, Jay Z feat. Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind. It is a song by American rapper Jay-Z, featuring vocals from singer Alicia Keys. The song was originally written by Brooklyn natives, Angela Hunte and Jane't "Jnay" Sewell-Ulepic. They were feeling homesick while traveling abroad. After hearing the song, Jay-Z, recorded it immediately, changing the verses. The letter contains references to drugs, locations in New York and its famous residents, and it describes the essence of the city.

Secondly, Sinatra - New York, New York. Guilherme had already posted this song here. It's a one of the most famous songs about the city of New York, and it needs no explanation. This music was originally created to be subject of the film "New York, New York" from 1977, directed by Martin Scorsese, but it was immortalized in the Sinatra's voice.

And firstly, a song I didn't know until deciding to write this post. Looking for other songs about, I discovered The Peter Malick Group feat. Norah Jones - New York City. I loved the song, it has a melody amazing! While the lyrics speaks of a broken heart in New York, the melody brings peace to those who listen to the song! It's amazing!
