To make a
good first impression you need to master three simple conversation steps:
1) Greeting - say hello to a peson
2) Introduce yourself
3) Say goodbye - farewell
If you
memorize different forms of saying these three parts of a conversation you
will sound more natural and confident in English. I will divide these three aspects of a
conversation in three different posts. I hope you like it!
PART 1 - GREETING
A basic
form of greeting some in English is:
-“Hi, How are you?”
-“Fine thanks, and you?”
-“Good, thanks for asking.”
-“Fine thanks, and you?”
-“Good, thanks for asking.”
However, if
you want to sound more fluent or use something different you should try:
-“Hey buddy! What have
you been UP TO?”
-“Oh hey Dude! Not too much, just working and hanging out with my girlfriend.”
-“Sweet.”
-“Oh hey Dude! Not too much, just working and hanging out with my girlfriend.”
-“Sweet.”
The
expression up to is a synonym of do and It’s more informal. When I greet someone with the question “what
have you been up to?” I am asking them what they have been DOING recently. Sweet means cool in this context.
So the
trick is: try to memorize many different forms of saying “How are you?” in
English and you will sound more natural and fluent.
